Dinghy Plans by Woods Designs This range of rowing and sailing dinghies and off the beach catamarans complement the larger catamarans designed by Woods Designs. Please see our main web site www.sailingcatamarans.com for more details of these larger boats and for much more information on our design philosophies and ideas. All the boats shown here are designed for home building in plywood and epoxy using stitch and glue techniques. The designs vary from the Crayfish yacht tender, through the sea going rowing boats, Bee and Linnet, to the beach catamarans Pixie, Quattro 14 and Quattro 16, not forgetting the 14' high performance singlehander racing dinghy, Stealth. All are well proven designs and, apart from the Quattro 14, all have been home built by the designers. Richard Woods, chief designer at Woods Designs, has been dinghy sailing for over 45 years and built his first dinghy in 1972. He has raced most dinghies and has won four national and one European championships, the latest being the first ever Blaze singlehander nationals. But it's no good just having boatbuilding and sailing experience! People are also justifiably concerned about the quality of plans and the service provided by their chosen designer. Possibly the most influential home boatbuilding magazine worldwide is Wooden Boat Magazine. They chose Woods Designs when they decided to add beach cats to their list of stock plans. Wooden Boat has been selling plans for the QUATTRO 16 and PIXIE since the late 1980's and have sold hundreds of sets of plans. One of the main reasons for choosing Woods Designs is clear from the magazine's initial review of the PIXIE: "Another reason for the ease of construction is found in the plans themselves, which are not merely mechanical drawings, but a fully rendered guide to the building and rigging of this boat, with detailed specifications for rigging and fittings. The plans are so clear as to resemble drawings for a "how-to" magazine article, or assembly instruction for a kit-in-a-box. They are a great visual aid for a vessel that is, in fact, being made by hand." Building your own boat is not only intensely satisfying, it is also a great way of saving money. Furthermore, you end up with a boat that you have built to your exact requirements. Note: The prices below are for download plans. However the Quattro 16 and Stealth are also available as paper plans. CLICK HERE to go to the Download Plan shopping basket. |
